Reason Along is in development and will launch with Years 0–6 lessons. This guidance follows the reviewed development source; release details are not yet final.
Getting started
Where do I begin?
Select or create a child’s profile, choose a year and open a lesson. Review Get ready before Start. Check the preparation and materials rather than assuming none are needed.
Which years will be included?
Reason Along will launch with lessons for Years 0–6, including six free starters at each year for every child profile.
Years 7–10 are planned as later expansion and are not currently available. No delivery date, price or future subscription entitlement is promised.
Why can I not find the lessons I expect?
Check your selected year, search terms and Marked to revisit filter. Development installations may not yet contain the complete launch library. If lessons are still missing, contact support with the app version and affected year. Do not send child details or delete the app.
Which curriculum is used?
The Years 0–6 lessons are designed around the 2025 New Zealand Mathematics and Statistics curriculum, generally in effect from 2026. Read Our curriculum approach for the intended connection and independent status.
Can I use another year?
Yes. Change your browsing focus or browse the available years. This is not an assessment and does not change the year recorded against an earlier session.
Sessions and drafts
What is saved when I start?
Start saves your place in the selected child’s lesson. Preview alone does not create a session. A recording draft and the final History record are separate: History is created only when you explicitly choose Save session.
Are unfinished choices and notes kept?
The reviewed development source automatically keeps recording choices and notes on this device as a draft attached to the saved session. “Draft kept on this device” confirms acknowledged changes. “Keeping draft…” or “Latest changes are not yet kept” means newer edits may still be only in the open window. Closing the window or app before acknowledgement can lose those newer edits.
Does a recovered draft mean the session was saved?
No. A draft is not a History record or proof that a session happened. Review the proposed date and choices, renew the required confirmations and explicitly choose Save session. Recovery does not replay a lost Save. Another window can view a draft, but only one window can edit it at a time.
What does Pause do?
It lets you leave without treating a session as completed. Return through the saved-session route. The exact lesson, stored state and applicable access must still be available.
How do I discard a draft or saved session?
Discard recording draft removes its choices and note while keeping the saved session. Discard saved session removes both the saved place and attached recording draft, while keeping History. Review confirmation details before continuing. Stale edits left after another window saves the session cannot create a second occurrence; review or deliberately dismiss them.
Does History show progress?
It shows recorded sessions, dates and your saved choices—not a score, learning level or assessment.
I saved a record against the wrong child.
Use Correct child for that History record and review the destination carefully. It changes attribution, not the lesson, date or observations.
Access
What is free?
At launch, every child profile will have the same six fixed starters at each of Years 0–6, with complete help, unlimited revisits and no expiry or payment details. Every profile receives the same collection; creating another profile does not unlock more content. Profiles, History, reminders and saving a session are free. Reopening teaching depends on that lesson’s access.
What does a subscription include?
The planned subscription adds the remaining Years 0–6 catalogue and authored continuation sequences for all local child profiles under the purchasing Apple account, with no sibling fee or profile cap. Planned New Zealand prices: NZ$9.99 per month or NZ$79.99 per year, including GST. Both provide the same access. No auto-converting trial. Live purchases are not yet available. Monthly and annual options provide identical access. Authored continuations are optional next steps through the available catalogue, not a promised schedule of new lessons.
What happens when paid access ends?
History and the saved place remain. Premium teaching stops, including within a saved session; eligible Record what happened remains available. Returning to subscription options is an explicit choice outside teaching.
What does Restore purchases restore?
Verified purchase access under the purchasing Apple account on supported devices. Caregivers may share the app/device; another Apple account has no promised sharing. Apple Family Sharing and cloud synchronisation are not included. It does not recover local profiles, History, recording drafts or learning data from another device. Live subscriptions are not available in the development version.
Does deleting a profile cancel billing?
No. Profile deletion and Apple subscription billing are separate. Once subscriptions are live, manage renewal through Apple’s subscription controls. Turning off renewal does not immediately end a valid paid period.
Optional reminders
The reviewed development source keeps reminders off until you enable them in Reminders on Home and grant alert permission. Choose local weekdays and a time. Alerts say “Time for a maths conversation?” without child or lesson details, sound or badge. Scheduled means requests are pending; Focus and system settings can affect delivery.
Turn reminders off in Reminders on Home to cancel future alerts. Archiving or deleting a profile does not change this shared schedule; delivered notifications remain. Reminder preferences are kept locally and may be included in device backups.
Your data
Where is information kept?
Profiles, saved sessions, recording drafts, next-lesson choices and History are kept locally. There is no learning-data account or automatic sync service. Optional notes should be brief and necessary; do not enter answers, scores or unnecessary personal information.
How are archive and delete different?
Archive keeps a child’s profile, next-lesson choice, saved session, recording draft and History, but removes that child from teaching selection. Unarchive does not automatically select the child or resume a lesson. Delete profile and data removes the displayed profile-related information after confirmation. Other children’s data and installation-level purchase bookkeeping remain separate.
Can a device backup recover my information?
Backups may include user data according to your device settings. The app has no backup/restore controls and cannot guarantee recovery. A subscription is not a learning-data backup service.
Stored information will not open. What should I do?
Do not delete the app or reset data as a first step. Note the app version, device/OS version and message shown. Contact support without child details or notes. The app does not automatically reset unreadable data. An uncertain save or delete result needs inspection before another change.
